Department Policy: Complaint Process Overview
The following section summarizes the Revere Police Department’s official policy regarding the acceptance and investigation of complaints against department personnel. The complete policy is available upon request.

Policy
It is the policy of the Revere Police Department to:
Accept and investigate all complaints of misconduct or wrongdoing against the department or department employees, regardless of the source of such complaint, by conducting a regulated, thorough, fair and impartial investigation which shall include an examination of all available factual information and evidence. Sub-Section: Complaint Control Form
- A standard complaint report form shall be used to record all complaints of misconduct, mistreatment, or unethical practices against department personnel, whether registered by a member of the public, initiated from within the department, or forwarded by another governmental agency.
This Complaint Form, available in both English and Spanish, shall be located in the following places:
– Front window workstation
– Officer-in-Charge’s office
– DHQ (internal department portal)
– Department website - The following information shall be included on the complaint control form:
- Date and time of complaint
- Name, address, and phone number of the complainant
- Name, address, and phone number of any witnesses
- Name, rank, badge number, and/or description of the employee involved
- Date, time, and location of the alleged incident
- Description of events resulting in the complaint
- Signature of the complainant
- Signature of parent/guardian if the complainant is under 18
- Name, rank, and signature of the department employee receiving the report
- Any person requesting to make a complaint shall, upon request, be given a copy of the Complaint Form to complete independently. Completed forms should be returned as soon as possible to the Internal Affairs Designee.
- Any person completing a Complaint Form shall, upon request, be given a copy of the completed form as a receipt verifying that the complaint was received.
