K9 Tek

K9 Tek, a 9-year-old male Belgian Malinois, is a dual-purpose K9 certified in Patrol Work and Narcotics Detection.  K9 Tek started at the Revere Police Dept. in March of 2016 and was partnered with Sgt. Patty Carey becoming the third team in the K9 Unit.  K9 Tek and Sgt. Carey completed a 15-week course with the Boston Police K9 Academy and was certified as a Patrol Dog Team in July 2016 by the BPD K9 Academy. K9 Tek was certified in tracking, area and building searches, evidence searches, handler protection, suspect apprehensions, agility, and obedience. In June of 2017, K9 Tek and Sgt. Carey successfully completed the Boston Police K9 Academy’s Narcotic Detection Course.  K9 Tek is certified to detect illegal narcotics. To keep up with their certifications as a Patrol and Narcotics K9 Team, K9 Tek and Sgt. Carey attends 16 hours of In-Service training each month for both patrol work and narcotics detection.  K9 Tek currently holds certifications for narcotics detection with the Boston Police K9 Academy and the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA).

Tek’s Fun Facts 

• Tek was born in Massachusetts.
• Favorite Toy: Ball on a string
• Favorite Present: Basketballs (likes to pop them and rip them apart)
• He has been imprinted on Heroin, Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, Black Tar Heroin, Meth, Ecstasy/MDMA and LSD.
• His largest find was approx. 1 kilo of cocaine during a search warrant.

K9 Echo

K9 Echo, a 2-year-old female American Black Labrador Retriever, is a single-purpose Explosive Detection Dog (EDD).  K9 Echo started at the Revere Police Dept. in January of 2023 and was partnered with Sgt. Patty Carey.  K9 Echo and Sgt. Carey were taking over for retiring EDD K9 Chance and handler, Lt. Michael Mason.  K9 Echo and Sgt. Carey were certified as an Explosive Detection K9 Team in March of 2023.  K9 Echo has been trained to detect over twenty odors involving explosives and explosive components as well as firearms. K9 Echo’s first deployment was to assist the Boston Police with EOD sweeps at the Boston Marathon in April of 2023.  She has done EOD sweeps for the Revere Sandcastle Festival and the Topsfield Fair.  To keep up with their training, K9 Echo and Sgt. Carey attend 16 hours of In-Service training each month for explosive detection.  K9 Echo currently holds certifications for explosive and firearms detection with the Boston Police K9 Academy, the ATF National Odor Recognition Testing (NORT), and the International Police Work Dog Association (IPWDA).

K9 Charlie

K9 Charlie is a 2-year-old purebred English Labrador retriever, born on February 13th, 2023. Charlie is the first certified therapy and comfort dog for Revere, recognized by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a nationally esteemed organization. English Labradors are celebrated for their calm demeanor, gentle nature, affectionate disposition, and eagerness to please. Charlie’s roles include assisting victims in communicating during stressful situations, providing a calming presence at crisis scenes, and offering peer support to officers. Charlie works closely with School Resource Officer Bryan Brenes in the Revere public school district, helping children in need.
